Pervasive Services
What do the new breed of networked technologies like security, data
management, voice and Wi-Fi all have in common? In the Business Ready
Network, each one of these technologies is also a pervasively available
Service,
one that is available to and needed by most resources on the network.
A network that provides more efficient and flexible use of the resources
attached to it is one that is more closely tied to, aware of, and responsive
to the needs of its applications and devices. This is the goal of the
second phase of the Business Ready Network.
Today, service-level innovation baselines include; IPv6, quality-of-service
(QoS), multicasting, security and management. Each of these services
exists to provide an extension throughout the network that globally
supports your
organization’s data management, wireless, and IP Communications initiatives.
Moving beyond device-level cooperation, services must be pervasive
throughout the infrastructure, working as a ‘network-dial tone’ to better
support and enable system-wide performance controls. Following is a
brief look
at some of the
system-level services that will better support dynamic resource utilization,
driving ‘virtualization’ at the resource level.
